That
title was more for the sake of alliteration, versus an actual big
birthday party for a two year old. We had a Grinch themed family party
since both boys have really loved watching both movie versions of the
Grinch this season. David
made up the red and green cupcakes for me since I had to work and then I
frosted and decorated them. The Grinch cutouts are stickers that I put
onto white scrap cardboard from my recycling bin, then cut out and
taped onto a toothpick. The little banner was
just some printed letters cut out, strung on some twine via a couple
slits in the paper with a box cutter and then tied to a few bamboo
skewers. It looks all fancy, but it really only took about half an hour
to get it done. We then blew up some green balloons
and that was it. To accompany the cupcakes we had "Grinch Juice" which pleased the boys immensely and set them up for a major sugar high.
It
was a bit difficult for Josh to grasp that it wasn’t his birthday, even
though we had tried to do the best we could to prep him for Ben’s day.
Luckily my family is very understanding of this and Josh got a few
special treats and a new
book that he could unwrap. It still didn’t stop him from trying to get
to the rest of the presents, but we avoided any big tantrums.
Ben
LOVES opening presents. That kid can shred paper really fast. It’s so
interesting to watch the differences between him and Josh because Josh
knows what a present is, but is reluctant to actually open something,
often going to someone
to ask for help. This time the designated helper was Uncle Ryan.
Benjamin
got new toys, books and some new clothes, which added onto Christmas
means that my little hoarder has his arms pretty darn full lately.
Got to love a party hat!
Things about Ben as a two year old: He might end up on an episode of 'Hoarders' someday. The kid packs as much stuff around with him as possible. We've had to take away all the toys from their bedroom because he will cram everything into his bed and then get too distracted to sleep. His favorites (which he is allowed to have in bed) are a stuffed Winnie the Pooh, a Mickey Mouse, Bullseye and a Woody figurine. He puts the Woody toy on Bullseye and pretends he's riding saying "yee haw yee haw" as he runs around. Just recently Ben has become willing again to be held and snuggled in the evening. He can count to three, but every letter is the letter 'A'. Ben loves putting on my chapstick and still gets into my jewelry box as often as he can. He makes all sorts of plane and car noises, but his vocabulary is a bit behind his peers and we can only understand about half of what he says. This leads to him getting pretty frustrated with us. If you tell him 'no' he will throw himself on the floor and sob. Ben blows kisses, but follows Josh's example with shoulder hugs. His hair gets curly when we don't cut it and he has outgrown two sizes of shoes in the past few months.
