Today David graduated from college with a Bachelors of Science degree in accounting! It was a rather long ceremony and we were stuck up in the nosebleed-incredibly-hot section of Mac Court. My dad took Josh out about half way through because he was too warm and very cranky. My parents and my grandma came to see David graduate. His parents aren't back yet from Russia; they come home next week. I was so proud to see David get his degree. About half of the ceremony was for awards and recognition of honor students, which David was not. They had a group of people who gradated from college with GPA's of 4.2. How the heck does that happen? So while they were honoring all those smartie-pants, I was thinking of honors that they should have given David. How about the "Squeaking by by the seat of your pants" award? Some of those classes we were just praying to pass, let alone get an A. Or perhaps the "I had a NICU baby in the beginning of my senior year" award. Maybe the best one would be "I played the most hours of Xbox and still managed to get everything done" honor. In all seriousness, even though David wasn't an honor student, he is exemplary in every other way to me. He traded a degree in something he loves, graphics design, to something a bit more practical and found that he loves it just as much and in some ways more. He is a stellar father who gets up early every single morning for Josh's first feeding so that I can sleep in. Maybe he could have studied more, but then we wouldn't have gone on trips to Disneyland, Disney World, multiple camping and hiking trips, road trips to see family or date nights. He has a job that allows me to stay at home most of the time. David takes Josh to church by himself every other Sunday when I have to work and still teaches Sunday School to teenagers. So David, you might not be simga cum laude or any of those other latin thingys, but you have all the honor and pride of your family behind you and we know you will pass your CPA exams and get a great job. Way to go honey!
